Between the office and the coffee shop: an examination of spaces used for research degree supervision

The last two decades have seen increased attention given to the role of space within university campus, with numerous new learning spaces forming part both physical and digital campus. Much focus how these work create supportive environments has been on undergraduate teaching. However, offer a great opportunity also enhance doctoral researcher’s supervision process through creation that break away from traditional office setting. In taking coffee shop as antithesis office, this paper examines theories around space-making in relation research, adding experiences UK researchers provoke further thought discussion about outside campus might be considered pedagogical approach supervision.
